. good afternoon, i'm michelle griego. frank is off this afternoon. >>> just one hour ago, several of the largest unions representing bart workers filed a lawsuit in alameda county court claiming the board of directors illegally broke an agreement on a new contract. mark kelly is live at the courthouse with the very latest developments. mark? >> reporter: well, michelle, this lawsuit makes three major claims. one, bart can't take back the total package agreement without good cause. and the unions say calling one part of that agreement a mistake is not good cause. claim 2 bart must execute the final agreement and claim 3, bart can't snip out one part of the agreement and essentially say no negotiating just take it or leave it. so here's a little background on this whole thing. the uproar has been over paid family leave. november 21, the bart board instructed management that paid family leave is costly. so they said first, get the family leave provision out of the contract. then and only then could they sign the contract saying it being in the final deal was a mistake. no surprise th

of a rainbow nation. michelle kosinski is live outside mandela's residence. michelle, this has been an all night, all day celebration, joyous celebration of mandela's life. >> it's just been incredible. you go through the crowd and you see the mix of people, all walks of life. we've seen babies and very old, black and white, really all races and faiths. people are gathered along a fence here outside of mandela's property. this morning it was a bare fence. this morning it is covered with flowers. the procession of people up and down the street has been absolutely nonstop. you can hear singing in the background. i will tell you that has not stopped for more than a minute of time today. you can hear it coming in the distance, the wonderful, low, deep, rhythmic sounds of african songs. then they approach and there's a party that breaks out here. everyone breaks out in singing and dancing. that one will leave and another group starts up. a national youth orchestra that came out here. a very harmonious group. some people crying and truly mourning, others celebrating the life of this man. i know

bought a poinsettia. >> that's a start. >> michelle, did you get your tree yet? >> no, i haven't either. so much to do. i still have pumpkins all over the place. step up! >>> all right. let's go out live and show you what's going on in some of our bay area freeways. it's windy outside. the camera has been shaking back and forward so two hands on the wheel. i'm surprised chp has not issued wind advisories but so far a little gusty and it's not causing delays yet through the livermore valley. here's a live look at sensors now in the east bay. looks good up and down the nimitz freeway even though there is a stall reported northbound 880 by fruitvale exit so i keep waiting to hear if there will be delays behind it but right now you're good to go past the oakland coliseum, the oakland airport. this is a live look closer to 66th exit and here's the bay bridge. there's a stalled truck carrying concrete blocking a lane. may take a while to clear but traffic is light approaching the pay gates over at the bay bridge. san francisco 280 another live look. we sent our photographer out this morning n

'm juliette goodrich. frank and michelle have the morning off. new this morning, firefighters are looking for the person who lived in this san jose mobile home. it was destroyed by a fire overnight. you can see the home completely gutted. the fire started at 2 a.m. in the casa alondre mobile home park on monterey road. firefighters didn't find anyone and neighbors don't think he was home at the time of the fire. >>> we have live team coverage of the freeze warning. cold temperatures gripping much of the bay area. kiet do live in fremont where temperatures are in the 30s. but we start with lawrence karnow. he means business with a turtleneck on in the weather center. >> throughout the day and the next five to seven days these temperatures are going to be chilly. out the doors the skies have cleared out. the winds have started to subside. we have seen some very cold temperatures. freeze warnings up for almost the entire bay area. overnight lows in the 20s and 30s. throughout the day temperatures not going to be a whole lot warmer. starting out at 29 degrees in santa rosa. get a little wind

. it is monday, december 9, i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. it is 5:00, a monday but already a busy monday on the roads. >> we do have a number of different incidents going on. it's pretty early to see this many accidents. nothing huge but we'll go out to loss gatos, we're getting word of a new issue, a car ran off the roadway into a pond or a ditch but it is visible from the connector ramp. southbound highway 17 to highway 85 right there by los gatos creek trail, not seeing major slowdowns and our sensors on the main lines and this traffic alert is still in effect even though the main lines of northbound 880 are open, a big rig hit some sand barrels and the off ramp remains closed for the next hour and a half until approximately 6:30 this morning. westbound 580 still looks good coming through the altamonte pass and as you get closer towards tracy and here is a live look at the dublin interchange. that traffic looks great and continues to move well out. that is your latest kcbs traffic. it's still cold outside. still, here is lawrence with your latest forecast. >>

'm michelle griego. time n 6:31. homeless in santa clara county ride a bus the only vta line that runs 24 hours a day. kiet do road the bus that many call hotel 22 and kiet, you rode it overnight. >> reporter: yeah. for a couple of bucks you can get a safe warm dry place to stay overnight. this is a story that we have been wanting to tell for quite some time. it turns out in the south bay, when it gets to freezing cold temperatures and you're homeless you don't have a lot of options. it's the first cold wet night of the season in san jose. and the shelters are full. but there is one place with vacancies. welcome to route 22, the vta bus line that goes 25 miles from eastridge mall to palo alto and back. it runs 24 hours a day and around midnight it takes on a different name, hotel 22. >> because it's safer to be on that bus than it is to be anywhere else. and so it's become by default a shelter. it's just a moving shelter. >> reporter: for james breslin a 55-year-old former tech worker who has fallen on hard times this warm dry place for the nice cost him $2.50. if he weren't here, he says

morning, it's wednesday, december 4. i'm anne makovec. >> i'm juliette goodrich. frank and michelle have the morning off. >> let's check in with lawrence because it is going to be a cold one out there. just the beginning of the cold snap, lawrence. >> yeah. really is. i think we have some colder weather ahead today. a chilly start widespread frost even at the coastline coastline. that cold air really coming in from the gulf of alaska and diving right into the bay area. so these temperatures taking a nosedive this morning. it is now 29 degrees in santa rosa, 29 in napa. 36 degrees in fremont. and 39 degrees in san jose. so even inside the bay we are seeing some cold temperatures and probably colder over the next hour and a half or so. so we have freeze warnings up for almost the entire bay area for this morning and again i think a colder night overnight tomorrow night and into tomorrow morning. that's when we'll see some very cold temperatures around the bay area. highs today are still going to only be on the chilly side. it will be sunny and bright but these numbers only in the 40s and t

is gripping the bay area and a freeze warning remains in effect for the region. good afternoon, i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. people down in san jose were bundled up today, coats, scarves, hoods have been on all day long in hopes of staying warm. down in gilroy workers busy covering plants with tarps and moving them indoors. the smaller trees are more vulnerable in overnight freezing temperatures. lawrence karnow in the weather center with how long we'll be in the deep freeze. >> concerned about the cold temperatures, the third night we are looking at below freezing temperatures again especially in some of the interior valleys. freeze warnings have now been extended until tomorrow morning. expecting another round of these temperatures dipping down into the low 20s and the 30s. we actually had some temperatures dropping down into the teens early this morning. the overnight lows are forecasted to be slightly warmer than last night but it is still going to be cold. about 25 degrees in the napa valley. 26 in santa rosa. 32 and freezing in san rafael. i think even ins
